Do I need braces?

Not everyone with crooked teeth requires braces. However, if your teeth are misaligned, orthodontic treatment may benefit you in a number of ways. Beyond the obvious changes of an improved bite and straighter teeth, it can be a great way to improve a person’s overall self-image. Straighter teeth may also allow greater ease of toothbrushing and flossing, thus improving oral hygiene and reducing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children get an orthodontic evaluation no later than age 7. Although orthodontic treatment can be performed at any age, timely treatment ensures maximum dental health.

With all of the recent advancements in orthodontics, wearing braces has never been easier. State-of-the-art appliances and treatments are now available. This ranges from traditional metal braces, to clear and tooth coloured brackets, to self-ligating brackets that require fewer adjustments, to clear-aligners and Invisalign, and invisible braces such lingual braces that are placed at the back of the teeth.
