Dental Cyst Removal
What is a dental cyst?
- A dental cyst is a fluid-filled sac that develops in your jaw bone. Cysts can tend to increase in size over time, potentially reaching a point where it causes pain or damage to surrounding structures.
- Cysts develop within your jaw bones and are therefore not something that can typically be seen or felt. They also often do not cause symptoms or pain. Therefore, they are most often discovered during routine dental exams and routine dental x-rays.
- There are multiple types of dental cysts, and all are managed by removal with a minor surgery if necessary. One example is dentigerous cyst which is commonly associated with unerupted tooth like embedded wisdom tooth.
Why does a dental cyst need to be removed?
- Although cysts are often asymptomatic and do not cause pain, they can tend to increase in size over time. Depending on the nature and type of cysts, some cysts, in the process of enlarging may push on surrounding teeth, bones, and tissue, causing damage to them in the process.
As cysts grow, they can also become associated with discomfort, pain, or even dental infection
